Grace Young
Piano Studio
hillsboro, Oregon
Welcome
Welcome to piano lessons! Private piano lessons are designed to develop students’ performance skills and be accompanied with other instruments
My name is Hyeyoung Pak [hey-young]. I named Grace Young Piano for my piano studio’s name because people will confuse my name’s spelling especially Hye. Hye(惠) from the Chineses letter means grace, and young(英) means young, so I used the first name’s meaning and second letter’s pronounce for my studio name.
My logo has many notes up and down that musically and symbolically represent grace notes. I want to share God’s grace with many people through music. I hope his grace continually overflows to everyone.
Bio
Hyeyoung Pak was born into a nonmusical family in South Korea. She realized at a young age her love for music, especially sacred piano music, which spoke to a desire to feed people’s souls. In spite of her family’s financial struggles, they chose to support her by providing piano lessons starting at the age of 10. From that point on, Hyeyoung has worked to connect with others, create harmony, and share the gift of music – which she believes gives people hope.
In 1997 Ms. Pak married and moved to America where, after taking some time off to recuperate from an overuse injury to her hands, she began studying with Theresa Keene, keyboardist for the Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2008, Hyeyoung found her family moving to Oregon. It was at Portland State University where she earned her Bachelor of Music in Education degree under the programs of Dr. Susan Chan and Dr. Julia Lee. Hyeyoung Pak finished her Masters in Music degree in 2023 with an emphasis in collaborative piano under the direction of Dr. Chuck Dillard.
Throughout her journey from South Korea to the United State, Mrs. Pak has been moved by the music that fills her soul and she continues to help others to feel that as well. She performed in PSU students’ choirs, ensembles with violinist, violist, flutist, singers. She is regularly the collaborative pianist with Evergreen trio as well as at her church, flutist, and Encore female choir. She worked with the Lovegood Performing Arts Company in summer 2024 and performed for Tuck Everlasting musical show. She joined the Pacific Youth Choir in 2024. She shares her talents as an educator, teaching private students piano performance as well as music theory.
Lesson and Policy
Private piano lessons are designed to develop students’ performance skills and be accompanied with other instruments. Lessons are weekly based from 30 minutes, 45 minutes, and 60 minutes. Students need to bring a binder, a pencil, a lesson note, and theory assignments.
Teaching Philosophy and Goals
- My motto is “If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime.”
- My goal in teaching piano lessons is to teach both sides of music theory and piano skills, so students can read music and play piano on their own.
- I will provide a strong music theory background to all my students, so they can be a better musician.
- Through lessons, students should expose a variety of different musical styles and eras such as Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary styles, hymns, and etc.
- I will help students to discover the joy in music making and are constantly challenged to strive for excellence.
- I will make the performance events for students, so they will share about music with their families, friends, and communities.
